I'm so proud of my nation right now. It's truly an event of epic proportions. Fifty years ago, the man wouldn't have been allowed to vote. I was listening to the BBC broadcasting from London, England and the major news topic was our American election. There were interviewing people from England, Tanzania, France and more, who were watching this election.
On Nov. 4th, 2008, America was the center of attention. The World was watching Barack Obama win the presidency. The World, people. It really puts things into perspective for me, about the important role America has in the world.
Do you know Gordon Brown? I didn't until I started listening to the BBC. He's the Prime Minister of England, equivalent to the President of the U.S. I didn't hear anything about that election. But the World was watching ours. It's amazing.
I voted for Obama, and I'm happy. The American people finally stood up and said, "Enough! It's time for a change. This path isn't working, we need to walk a new one." David Gergen, CNN senior political analyst said, "[its] the passing of an old order." I feel so patriotic right now I could shit red, white and blue. I love America. Change is coming.
Mitt Romney left the Presidential race. Why? "I'd forestall the launch of a national campaign," Romney said, "and frankly I'd be making it easier for Senator Clinton or Obama to win. I simply cannot let my campaign be a part of aiding a surrender to terror."
"Aiding a surrender to terror"? Terror has already won because it's a concept. One can label anything as a terror. It's like trying to fight the Boogieman, he causes terror and not just to kids. Some adults are still afraid of him. I'm not embracing "terror" but I'm a realist. To support a "War on Terror" is giving our government the right to take away all our liberties, in the sake of "keeping the homeland secure."
Lets flip the coin, for just a moment. These Al-Queda/Iraqis/Iranians/North Koreans/Republicans, have a certain view point that most people do not agree with, obviously. But, looking through their eyes, we/freedom/democracy are threatening to take away everything they hold dear and have been happily living with for decades or centuries. It threatens their own freedoms to religion and their freedoms to defend, fight and die for what they feel is a just cause.
One cannot help those who do not want help. If their happy living their lives under a totalitarian or military government, then so be it. Just because we as Americans don't think it's right, doesn't mean we are.
It's no wonder they're fighting. They're fighting for their lives, their families their spirituality, just like we are fighting to "defend" our freedom. (Which is fucking stupid because we don't need to defend anything. Nothing is threatened. What happened on 9/11 was not an attack on "freedom", I don't even care who you are. We've got a brand new 200+ year old government that seems to be working just fine and the world knows it.)
So, why is Romney really dropping out? I suspect an excuse. He knows he's not going to win. It makes sense to give up, but not because it's "aiding a surrender", there's nothing to surrender. The pendulum has already swung too far to the right, and the natural flow of things is to start back the other way.
Have you heard the nonsense surfacing about Mitt Romney and Barack Obama? Apparently, they have faith. But it seems, to be the President of the United States, they chose the wrong one.
Mitt Romney is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, LDS (a.k.a. Mormon) and The People are in a flurry. Personally, I can't believe it's even an issue. Why does he feel the need to defend it, like it's a bad thing? Especially when we live in a nation that offers a little thing called the Bill of Rights, you know, the deal between the Government and it's People to protect it's People from their Government. Ever heard of it? It was kind of a big deal at the time. Without it, we'd have no central Government today. Well, it's very first order of business was to give every citizen the liberty of worshipping however they wanted. So, considering that our government came into being because of this little agreement and people's right to VOTE for their leaders came as an afterthought, why should any religion be brought into question?
I heard on the morning show I listen to, an uninformed woman called in to report a rumor that Obama is a Muslim and his middle name is Hussein. She saw it in a forwarded email. (He did, in fact, go to a Muslim school but he also went to a Christian school, *gasp* Is he a Christian, too?!) She said it as if she were "letting the cat out of the bag" so to speak, like it was taboo. As for his middle name: in the Middle East, "Hussein" is as common a name as "John" or "Ryan" in the U.S. Even if it were true, how can it possibly be a problem? How is it wrong? In fact, way back in the day (like B.C.), any kind of monotheism, *cough* Christianity *cough*, was considered a cult.
The United States' Bill of Rights, specifically it's freedom of religion has only been around for about 225 years so, maybe the U.S. is a little tired of it. Maybe it's a bit outdated and perhaps it should be taken away and put to rest. Maybe then, we can devolve to witch burning and a fifth Crusades or another Holocaust.
I'm reminded of a song by some artist (I'm sure you know who) that sings, "You don't know what you've got, til' it's gone." If we take our liberties away, maybe then we can truly appreciate what they were.
1. COWS 2. THE CONSTITUTION 3. THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
1. COWS - Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that our government can track a cow born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall where she sleeps in the state of Washington? They track her calves to their stalls. They can track the trucks that took the cow to a specific food processing plant, the truck that took the meat from the plant and the markets they delivered it to. This is all to stop mad cow disease. But they are still unable to locate 11 million illegal aliens wandering around our country. Maybe we should give them all a cow.
2. THE CONSTITUTION - They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq . Why don't we just give them ours? It was written by a lot of really smart guys, it's worked for over 200 years and we're not using it anymore.
3. TEN COMMANDMENTS - The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments in a courthouse ... you cannot post "Thou Shalt Not Steal," "Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery" and "Thou Shall Not Lie" in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians -- it creates a hostile work environment.
